DCGeoLab … where space is made sense of

Welcome to the Digital Cartographies and Geospatial Analysis Laboratory.

This space will connect students, researchers, local partners and community in general with the latest spatial analysis projects and digital humanities and social sciences. DCGeoLab is a space focused on spatial technologies applied to social sciences and humanities in general and to archaeological research in particular. Our goal is to breach the gap between the latest technologies in geospatial analysis and a more humanistic and cultural approach to research.

The Digital Cartographies and Spatial Analysis Research Laboratory is a state-of-the-art research space specializing in applying advanced spatial analysis digital tools. DCGeoLabs focuses on applying these tools to various social sciences and humanities disciplines, particularly archaeological research.

Our laboratory is committed to pushing the boundaries of traditional research practices within the social sciences and humanities. We push for adapting tools and methodologies originally thought for engineering, computational, and hard sciences, to a framework of social interactions, history, text analysis, and qualitative data analysis and management. As such, our research laboratory is a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, having as objective the congregation of experts from diverse backgrounds, including STEAM –including Social Sciences– and the humanities.

We are located at Wright Hall, John S. Building B, room 110 (WRI-B110) , the same building of the Anthropology Department Offices.

We always welcome new collaborations and interesting research projects that contribute to establishing our lab, our department, and the College of Liberal Arts as centers of innovative research where students, faculty, and community members can develop their ideas and create tools that tell the different stories and histories of present and past cultures.
